RE: Bedsaver

They are for specific hitches. If they don't show one available for your hitch, call Blue Ox. In my case, they didn't have one for my Curt Q5 hitch. So I called Blue Ox and they transferred me to a friendly guy named Doug Prokop. He ended up offering to pay shipping of my hitch to/from their factory (using Roadway Carriers). They would then make a BedSaver for it (at no cost) and ship it back to me free of charge. It's currently at their factory. So I got lucky!

RE: Used RVCapitalWholesalers

Hi,
This company was recently been renamed from RV Direct Wholesalers to RV Capital Wholesalers. Their previous website was rvdirectwholesalers.com. The RV.net link below has some previous posts re: that company:
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/search/parms/sw{rv%20direct%20wholesalers}|km{exact}|kl{m}|fm{}|pd{365}|ma{}/sr/1.cfm
BTW: I also have a Big Horn on order (2009 3055RL). Congrats and keep me informed about your ordeal. Also, I think rvpricebusters.com may have the same unit for a slightly lower price (at least 2 months ago when I was shopping). And they seem to be well-reputed as well according to this forum and the good folks over on the Heartland Owners Forum. If you call them, ask for Brent Hoffman since he was very helpful (and not pushy) to me. I ended up buying from my local dealer since they came within $1200 of rvpricebusters.com. As a first-time clueless RV owner, I really felt the need to have a willing and able local service shop nearby. Then again, if the price difference was $9000 as in your case, no way would I buy locally.
Good luck!
Gary B.

Although I have no personal experience myself, here's a link to a thread 2 weeks ago discussing this very topic with the Yamaha 2400is:

Outdoor Mats

My first RV is on order (5er) and I am clueless about mats. I want to buy one to use outside while sitting around. On the Tweety's site here they have three different type of mats: awning camping mats, patio mats and patio rugs. Which type/material do most folks buy?
Also, this RV will have a 20ft long awning. Do most folks buy a mat of the same dimension as their awning?
Thanks!

Truck Tire Pressures

I bought my first truck, a 2008 Ford F350 SRW SWB CC Lariat 4x2 PSD with Continental 275/65R18 tires. The tire pressure label inside the driver door specifies cold pressures of 60 lbs for front tires and 80 lbs for rear tires.
1) Do these pressure specs apply to when the truck is empty, or when it is fully loaded at/near GVWR (as in pulling a 5th wheel)? 80 lbs for the rear truck tire sounds high for an empty truck.
2) What pressures do you folks normally run (front and rear) while empty, and while pulling a 12000 lb 5th wheel? Should I always run the truck's rear tires at maximum pressure (per the tire sidewall) when pulling the 5th wheel?
Thanks!

Folding Camping Chairs

I'm buying my first RV and want 4 folding camping chairs and table. Since we have many other things to buy (and will only be part-time campers), we're looking for "decent" chairs in the $40-$60 per chair price range. I've done some searching at local stores, and they don't offer much in the "folding" chair variety. Camping World, Tweetys, etc. have a decent selection. So I have a few questions:
1) Why do most folding camping chairs have the "floppy" (not rigid) design such as Here ? I'm a big guy and don't want that "sinking in feeling". Recliner chairs would seem to push my legs forward more than desired (I like to sit upright with one leg crossed and the other on the ground). So I'd rather have a firm seat surface and comfortable cushion. But most seem to be of this "floppy" design. Am I missing some reason for this (besides maybe weight)? Unfortunately, since local places don't seem to carry camping chairs, I may need to buy "sight unseen" on the internet.
2) Does anybody have any feedback on this type of chair here? Are these types of camping chairs comfortable? It's from Tweetys.
3) Besides Camping World and Tweetys, can anybody recommend places that sell nice folding chairs in $40-$60/chair price range?
Thanks!

RE: Question about using pizza stone in RV oven

GBlack there is a metal floor in oven, below the rack. The burner hangs from it. There are holes for air around the perimeter and a 12 X 12 tiles will set inside these holes. The tile retards the heat coming through the metal shelf and forces more of it up the sides of the oven.
Don't try to mentally compare it to your home oven, similar but not the same.
Thank you for the explanation!!!

RE: Question about using pizza stone in RV oven

Sorry, but I'm still a bit unsure about where you put the tile (I'm new and don't have my RV yet to see firsthand). But if only one rack exists (and must be free to hold food), then is the tile suppposed to sit directly on the burner mechanism at the bottom of the oven? That would seem to be an unlevel surface for the tile to sit on (but then again, I don't yet have my RV to check for sure).
Thanks!

RE: extended run tank Yamaha

The place that makes the extended run tanks for the Honda EU2000 is called Duration Power. Their website is:
http://durationpower.com/store//index.html
Unfortunately, I don't think they make one yet for the Yamaha 2400. I called them up 4 months ago to ask. It has something to do with the type of fuel input system (gravity vs. non-gravity or vented vs. non-vented??? not sure). Anyway, they told me they were working on one but would not commit as to when it would be finished. They just said "it was not easy" and implied they already tried but failed.
If you search this forum under Yamaha EF2400is Extended Run Tanks (or something similar), I believe some folks have rigged up something that may work OK. I remember one thread in particular that discussed this specific issue.

RE: Any Indiana Folks with RV Order In-Progress: Tax Increase?

Thanks for the replies so far. My dealer said I would owe the increased tax rate even if I paid off the entire balance before April 1. He said the fact that I'll be taking delivery after April 1 is all that matters. I guess I'll need to contact the state DOR.

Any Indiana Folks with RV Order In-Progress: Tax Increase?

I placed an order for a new 5er in February and plan to take delivery in May. Indiana just raised the sales tax rate from 6% to 7% effective April 1, 2008. So my dealer contacted me to say that I will owe an extra $390 upon delivery (extra 1% of purchase price). Since I ordered the trailer when the 6% tax was in effect, it kinda sucks that I will now need to pay 7% instead. Is anybody else in Indiana in this situation?

RE: Yamaha YG2800i generator

Not to hijack, but can anybody tell me the benefit of this genset over, say the $200-$300 Champion genset recently reviewed alot on this forum? Both seem to operate in the high 60db range.
As a part-timer/weekender, I only need a genset while overnighting in a parking lot in route to the destination - probably 2-4 times per year (also to have power in storage lot where I keep the 5er). I don't ever intentionally plan to stay in CGs without hookups. So other than a better name and maybe bigger dealer network, what advantages will this Yamaha have over the Champion? I'm guessing one is that the Yamaha is an "inverter" style genset, thus allowing it to run at a variable speed. Any others?

PD9260C Converter Questions

Hi: My first RV (5th wheel) is on order. It has a Progressive Dynamics Model PD9260C converter (60 amps). According to factory link below, it comes with a "Charge Wizard" and has high/low voltage protection, reverse battery protection, etc.
http://www.progressivedyn.com/prod_details/rv_conv/rv_converter_pd9260c_2.html
Knowing little about converters, my questions are:
1) How good is this converter in terms of being a decent 3-stage charger? Will the Charge Wizard prevent the battery from being boiled dry?
2) Does the high/low voltage and reverse polarity protection make it unnecessary for me to buy a special voltage/polarity protection device (such as Progressive Industries or Surge Guard)? I know it won't provide surge protection, but then again a surge protector is only $100 versus $300-$400 for a full-featured PI or Surge Guard.
3) Is the "Converter Status Remote Pendant" a useful option? Does it simply plug into the converter?
Thanks!

RE: Blackout Shades "The Cheap Way"?

Thanks all for the advice!!!
I'll check into the Reflectix. This seems like a good fix until I decide what (if anything) I will do for the long run.
It sounds like most folks wedge the Relectix between the window and existing shade. Can it instead be velcroed over the entire window opening? This would seem to be easier to put up/take down, although of course a few pieces of velcro will need to stay affixed to the outside of the window frame.
Just wondering since I've never seen Reflectix before. Sounds like it's similar to the silver "bubble" material I use on my car windshield, except it can be cut to size.
Thanks!

RE: Heartland Big Country v. Jayco Eagle

I did quite abit research on the Big Country before ordering my Big Horn. Many standard/construction features in the Big Country are identical to the Big Horn. Please see the thread below from the Heartland Owners Forum for more info. Although I know little about the Jayco Eagle (other than most of its owners seem happy), from my limited research, you may conclude the Big Country has some extra nice features over the Eagle (tank sizes, insulation, etc.). Please take the time to do a detailed comparison of the Eagle versus Big Country.

Blackout Shades "The Cheap Way"?

Hi: Our first RV is on order (5th wheel). Blackout shades aren't a factory option. I heard standard day/night shades don't help much with filtering out the morning light. Since we often stay up late/sleep in late, we'd like something to help filter out the morning light. Since we'll only be part-time weekend campers, we don't want to go the expensive route of throwing away the standard day/night shades upon delivery and installing aftermarket blackout shades. Then again, we don't want to simply tape black plastic sheeting around the windows (don't laugh, I once did that in a home until we could afford to put up curtains later).
So my question is: has anybody seen any black screens, etc. with suction cups (or velcro) that are cheap and could be easily put up and taken down every day?
Thanks!

RE: What size sheets?

Our new trailer has a queen bed which is 58 x 74 1/2 instead of the standard 60 x 80. For those that have the smaller version, do you buy special "RV" sheets or can the standard sheets be used? I realize the "bottom sheet" is the important one..May seem like a silly question, but the DW made me ask this. Thanks.
Check out this place on EBay that I just found out about. They sell special size RV sheets.

RE: Generator auto-start recommendation?

I heard about an EC-30 device for Onan generators. Supposedly would be much easier to add during production, but it can be added afterwards.

RE: Yamaha generator

Prin, I run my 13.5 AC with my YAMAHA 2400 with NO PROBLEMS.
Ditto the above - - EXCEPT - I run my 15K AC with NO PROBLEMS-
- - and I have checked the voltage when running. (it's fine!)

ol Bombero-JC,
Where are you located at and at what altitude? I have a 5th wheel on order with 15k BTU main AC unit (and also 13.5k BTU bedroom AC). I'd love to be able to run the 15k unit with the EF2400is, even if I have to turn off some other stuff. BTW: My units will be Dometic DuoTherms.
Thanks!
